Okonjo-Iweala says Oteh can attend EMT meetings

Abuja – Mrs Aruma Oteh, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, who is currently on leave, on Tuesday in Abuja attended the meeting of the Economic Management Team (EMT).
Dr Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of Finance, told State House correspondents shortly after the meeting ended at about 8.30 p.m., that Oteh was free to attend the meeting.

“There is an audit report going on; she has not been proven to be guilty of anything; we should allow the audit process to go forward.

“She has been told to take leave from the job, until the audit is finished, it is not suspension. Hopefully, we will have it soon. Being on leave does not mean she cannot participate in one or two of the other activities.
“There is nothing that stops her from participating until we get that report and see the direction in which it will go at that time.

“Mr President will review it and take whatever action that is needed if any,’’ she said.
The meeting, which was presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, was held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa.

The 24-member EMT inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan on Aug. 18, 2011 is given the mandate to generate programmes and policies that will help the government achieve its transformation agenda and Vision 20:2020

The team is chaired by the President while the Minister of Finance served as the coordinator.
